This piece explores the idea of timelessness. What makes a one hundred- year-old song survive? By mixing fragments of the actual song with white noise and wind sounds, I am imagining bits of melody and rhythm moving through time and space.
The score features elements W.C. Handy’s classic, St. Louis Blues. Chopped up cover versions are combined with cigar box electric slide guitar, brushes on a snare drum, Wurlitzer electric piano and plucked acoustic piano strings.
Premiered October 6, 2012, New Dance Horizons. Touhill Performing Arts Center, University of Missouri-St. Louis.
